Welcome to IBAC 2019

The XXVII International Bioacoustics Congress will be held at the University of Sussex, Brighton, England from Saturday 31st August to Thursday 5th September 2019.

IBAC is 50!

The International Bioacoustics Council (IBAC) was founded in 1969 to promote international dissemination of research in bioacoustics. Bioacoustics is, broadly speaking, the study of biological sounds, combining biology with physical acoustics. Given its multidisciplinary nature, the IBAC conference aims to bring together, in informal settings, biologists from different disciplines (ethologists, physiologists, taxonomists, etc) with engineers, sound archivists and sound recordists, to foster discussion and an exchange of ideas.

IBAC 2019 will cover a wide range of topics from the anatomical, neuropsychological and physiological processes in vocal production and perception, sound propagation and perception in varying physical and social environments, and the origins and functions of acoustic communication in a wide range of animals, including humans.

IBAC is a leader in the field of animal acoustics and the principal organisation in publishing and promoting bioacoustics research. The first meeting was held soon after the Council was established, in the United Kingdom, and we are proud to bring IBAC back the UK for its 50th anniversary.

And join us at IBAC 2019 to celebrate half a century of bioacoustics!
